Halti, Finland

Halti is the most popular trekking destination of Finland. Halti is part of the municipality of Enontekio in Northern Finland, also known as Lapland. Finland's highest peak is in Halti fell at 1324 meters (4,357 ft). The highest peak of Halti fell is actually 1,365 meters but that goes to Norway's side of the border. The height of Halti may sound really nothing at all compared to numerous other fells and mountains. That's not the whole truth because the nature and surroundings around Halti are something you really should experience.

Geologically Halti is a part of the Scandinavian Mountains, which highest peak is Galdhopiggen 2,469 meters (8,100 ft) in Norway and Kebnekaise 2,104 m (6,903 ft) in Sweden. Halti is actually very close to Finland's borders with Sweden and Norway as mentioned earlier.

Trekking terrains around Halti are mainly easy to walk and the height differences are not too big. The most popular trail to reach Halti is from Kilpisjarvi, in that case the length of one way trip is 55 kilometers (34 miles).

The shortest way to reach Halti is from Guolasjarvi, Norway. That way the one way trip is only 10km (6 miles). This way is much harder than the one from Kilpisjarvi and there's no marked trail at all. The best time to come to Halti is about from beginning of July to mid-September. If you reach the peak of Halti you really should write your name to Halti's guestbook which has over 80 000 names already.
